GREENWOOD, Ind. (Hoosier Enquirer) — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting early Sunday morning that critically injured another juvenile in Greenwood, Indiana, authorities said.
According to the Greenwood Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Crescent Drive at around 1 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a report of an attempted suicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 13-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred during a gathering of six juveniles, all of whom were known to the victim. The group was reportedly playing with a firearm when, at some point, the suspect — another 13-year-old from Greenwood — allegedly pointed the gun at the victim and shot him.
After the shooting, the five other juveniles fled the scene, and approximately 20 minutes later, the juvenile suspect called 911, claiming the incident was an attempted suicide.
Following an investigation, the suspect was arrested and is now facing preliminary charges of attempted murder. He is being held in the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Facility pending further legal proceedings.
The identities of the juveniles involved have not been released due to their ages, and the Greenwood Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This case highlights the growing concern over gun access and the involvement of minors in violent incidents. Local authorities are urging parents and guardians to take precautions and ensure firearms are securely stored away from children.
